First Fleet & Botany Bay: the London Chronicle. The first printed accounts of the Expedition to and the Settlement at Sydney Cove, in issues of the London Chronicle newspaper issued in early 1789, April 28-30, 1789: Containing a short article, '....The extent of our possessions in New Holland have not been explained to the public.....' following which, the coordinates of Governor Phillips' huge commission are delineated. Also, an early reference to the fur trade, with a ship having sailed from Botany Bay to the north-west coast of America 'on the fur trade'.
