Frédéric Boucheron was born in 1830 in Jussy, France. He was apprenticed to a jeweller in Paris before opening his own shop in 1858, and it soon became known for its high-quality jewellery and watches.

In 1893, Boucheron moved his shop to Place Vendôme, which is still the home of the Maison today. He was the first of the great contemporary jewellers to open a boutique on Place Vendôme, and this move helped to solidify Boucheron's reputation as a leader in the luxury jewellery industry.
