1899 Melbourne Cup - Merriwee: Cast iron horse's head hitching post, with brass plaque 'Presented to H.Power ? Merriwee- Melbourne Cup, 1899'. Scarce (also very heavy 80kg). [The Ballarat Brewing Company each year from 1875 to 1910 presented the owners of the winning Melbourne Cup horse with one or a pair of these posts. They were made at the Ballarat Iron Foundry, and each post carried a brass plate giving details of the owner, horse and date]
