A Superb Pig Killing Club, Fanla Village, North Ambrym, Vanuatu, (nineteenth century), carved hardwood and natural earth pigments, 56.5 cm long. Provenance: Chief Tofor, Fanla Village, Collected in the field by Dr Peter Elliott, from the above 1972. This superbly proportioned and rare club still retains its original ceremonial paint. The fact that this is an early example retaining its original paint suggests that it most likely had actual ceremonial use.
