A porcelain and gilt bronze figural pocket watch holder, 19th century, probably French, the coloured bisque porcelain figure of a Chinese man reclining against a large bale and holding an opium pipe, within a finely cast gilt bronze mount of rococo styling issuing leaves on wire stems and having a central stand with two opium poppy buds with provision for the pocket watch; upon a marble base. Height 17.5 cm. Width 16.5 cm. Depth 11 cm

    It is very fluid in a molten state, and its hardness, strength when set, and non-corrosive properties makes it most suitable for casting sculpture.
