- Bird Cage Base - In Australia, the term is commonly used to describe the base of a Victorian loo table or games table, where the turned pillars making up the 'birdcage' sometimes extended from the pedestal block at the top, the knees on the legs.
Another more desirable type of birdcage base has four carved supports at the edge of the table, extending to the stem just above the legs. - Figured - A descriptive term to describe the patterns in the grain of timber. An object may be described as "well figured" or "highly figured" if the grain on a section of the object is highly patterned, as with flame mahogany or burr walnut.
