  • Barcelona Chair - One of the most enduring forms from the Art Deco period, the Barcelona chair consists essentially of two leather cushions slung on a curving tubular steel frame. Originally designed in 1929 by the architect Mies Van Der Rohe, for the German pavilion for the International Exposition of 1929, which was hosted by the city of Barcelona, Spain. The chairs are still being manufactured by Knoll Inc. but there are numerous unauthorized copies also available.
  • Circa - A Latin term meaning 'about', often used in the antique trade to give an approximate date for the piece, usually considered to be five years on either side of the circa year. Thus, circa 1900 means the piece was made about 1900, probably between 1895 and 1905. The expression is sometimes abbreviated to c.1900.
