Silhouette portrait picture in timber frame with labels verso 'Dearest George at the age of 10 done at ..(?), 1830/31. J.E.S, Jan 1845'; & a later early 20th century label 'Youngest son of Col. Wm. Sorell Gov. of Tasmania Jan. 1845'. William Sorell became Governor of Van Diemen's Land in 1817 under a cloud of controversy due an earlier liaison with the wife of a fellow officer Lieutenant Kent in the Cape Colonies. Sorell had seven children to his first wife and several with Mrs Kent who accompanied him to Hobart. This portrait is believed to be their youngest boy. Frame size 10 x 10 cm
