A rare and important HM Achilles crew signed Ensign the Royal Navy St George linen Ensign flag (1707 pattern) from the famous leander-class light cruiser HM Achilles and signed by numerous members of that ship's crew after the 'Battle of the river plate' on the 30th December 1939 when the ship was being refitted in Wellington post battle. The flag is with Union Jack in the first canton and signed in pencil by the crew members in the other three, including Captain W.E. Parry. Ex collection of G.H. Heywood who was gifted the flag by a widow of an Achilles crew member. Height 43 cm. Width 88 cm
