A Japanese tansu, early Meiji period in pine and mixed timbers configured asymmetrically with one long drawer above two short drawers above a pair of sliding doors beside three short drawers, above two drawers beside a small cupboard door opening to reveal two internal drawers, the whole fitted with original metal extending carrying handles, fittings and decorations, 82 cm long, 40 cm deep, and 89 cm high. Provenance: The Collection of Lockwood de Forest, founder of Tiffany & Co. and thence by direct descent
