A French gilt metal and porcelain clock garniture, circa 1880, the bell striking movement and cobalt painted porcelain dial within a gilt metal surround complete with relief garlands and urns, mounted upon a separate stepped base and with matching three branch candlesticks, the clock 37 cm.
circa. A Latin term meaning 'about', often used in the antique trade to give an approximate date for the piece, usually considered to be five years on either side of the circa year.
