JOHN ROBINSON (1929-), Mortality' (From nothing to nothing, cut from an egg), bronze, Edition 5/9, 29 cm high, Together with a letter signed by John Robinson stating ' This is to certify that the bronze sculpture 'Mortality' sold to Mrs Peter B. Cooper is an original work of art by John Robinson being edition No. 5 of Catalogue Item No. 37 in the permanent exhibition of The Universe Series at the Commonwealth of Australia's Lanyon Gallery, Canberra. The series is cast in a world limited edition of 9 by Fonderia Artistica Mariani of Pietrasanta, Italy.' 18th September 1980.

  • Bronze - An alloy of copper and tin, traditionally in the proportions of about 9 parts of copper to 1 part of tin.

    The discovery of bronze in Western Asia in the 4th century enabled people to create metal objects which were superior to those previoulsy possible because of its strength and hardness, and it has been used throughout the world for weapons, coins, tools, statuary and other decorative items.

    It is very fluid in a molten state, and its hardness, strength when set, and non-corrosive properties makes it most suitable for casting sculpture.
