Alphonse Van Beurden was a Belgian sculptor and ivory carver who was born in Antwerp on 23 April 1854. He died on 21 September 1938. Van Beurden studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Antwerp, where he was a pupil of Joseph Geefs and Eduard Dujardin. He was a highly skilled craftsman and worked in a variety of mediums, including marble, bronze, and ivory. Van Beurden designed the caryatid and allegorical sculptures on the façade of the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In the United Kingdom, he is renowned for his ivory sculptures. Between 1887 and 1904 he exhibited thirteen times at the Royal Academy of Art. He died on 21 September 1938.
